Maker Space is a learning environment where school groups and teachers can tinker, design and create together. Everyday materials are reused in exciting ways that encourage experimentation and collaboration to develop 21st-century skills.

Six immersive, imaginary environments, a towering waterfall and a flood plain make up Connected Worlds, an exhibition about sustainability and interconnectedness within ecosystems. Students transform these ecosystems as they explore the connections within and among the environments of a plains, desert, jungle, wetlands, river valley and reservoir.
Design Lab is a new experience consisting of distinct areas that allow students to engage in activities, experiments, and challenges that provide a deeper understanding of engineering and the design process. Design Lab encourages students to look at the materials around them in new ways.

Google Field Trip Days:
Enhance your Field Trip with an Enrichment Activity Through the support of Google, NYSCI is offering NYC Title I public schools free 45-minute Design Lab Activity Sessions, 3D Theater Presentations or Connected Worlds Sessions with paid group admission. Cannot be combined with other offers. Space is limited.
Presented in the iconic Great Hall, Connected Worlds immerses visitors in a fantastical animated world where your actions – gestures, movements, and decisions – impact how well the world is kept in balance.
Design Lab encourages visitors to be creative while experimenting with structures, circuits, simple materials and more.
Through dozens of playground elements like slides, seesaws, sand pits, and fog machines, visitors of all ages and abilities can explore the scientific principles of motion, balance, sound, sight and simple machines, as well as sun, wind, and water.
