Can dragons get kids fired up about genetics? We found out today as SciPlay hosted the second GeniGames tournament with students from Health Opportunities High School in the Bronx and Grover Cleveland High School in Queens.

Contestants were tasked with breeding dragons and overcoming various genetic hurdles to see whose dragon had the most longevity. In collaboration with Concord Consortium and researchers from Michigan State University, SciPlay is studying whether incorporating elements of gaming into science curricula will help sustain student interest and motivation to learn.

The project runs through 2014. You can read the abstract here.
