The New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) hosted its STEM Career Expo on Thursday, May 28, welcoming nearly 700 students and young adults from across New York City for its annual initiative that aims to introduce local youth to networking and career opportunities across STEM fields and industries. 

The event brought together nearly 100 organizations across healthcare, technology, education, sustainability, media, and research fields, with leaders introducing attendees to real-world career pathways and opportunities in STEM fields. Through hands-on workshops, interactive activities, live demonstrations, exhibits, and conversations with professionals, participants were able to explore educational and career opportunities while making meaningful connections with experts across industries. The evening also featured three panel conversations with leaders shaping the future of STEM and innovation, who shared their inspiring stories and insights with the public. Speakers included Andel Koester, Director of Community Initiatives at The New York Climate Exchange; Michael Samuelian, Director of Urban Technology Hub at Cornell Tech; and Navida Vignoles, Senior Program Manager of CUNY x MTA Internship Program; among many others. 

“It’s promising to see the hundreds of students and local young adults join us this year for our annual STEM Career Expo,” said NYSCI President and CEO Lisa J. Gugenheim. “At the New York Hall of Science, we strongly believe young people should have access to the many opportunities this vast city has to offer, in STEM and beyond. Our annual career and networking effort is part of our ongoing mission to spark curiosity, discovery and interest among New York’s future leaders.”

Featured organizations include the American Museum of Natural History, Cornell Tech, Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, PepsiCo, Museum of the Moving Image, New York Academy of Sciences, New York Climate Exchange, New York State Department of Civil Service and Department of Transportation, New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering, Queens Botanical Garden, Wildlife Conservation Society and many more.

The STEM Career Expo is part of NYSCI’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to STEM education and empowering the next generation of innovators and critical thinkers, giving them the tools to explore their futures in ways that feel connected to their own interests and experiences.
