Nourish Young Minds
Every day at NYSCI, we inspire children, families, and teachers to create a future fueled by science and invention. Your support helps drive transformative learning at the museum, in the community, and around the world.
Innovation Institute (I2) is a program that engages high school students in the entire process of developing a product or program that addresses a need or value in our surrounding community, centered around the idea that STEM learning can be accessed by anyone.
“I don’t think I would have gotten these opportunities in school. This program has taught me to think and prototype before I design something. It taught me how to expand my ideas to get different views from other peers that would help you develop a better prototype or design for your community, or yourself.”
– Oneika Webb, Innovation Institute Intern.
Innovation Institute (I2) is a program that engages high school students in the entire process of developing a product or process that addresses a need in our surrounding community.
Throughout the I2 program we focus on social entrepreneurship through the lens of design and systems thinking. Participating youth observe and explore the community in NYSCI’s immediate neighborhood of Corona, Queens. They engage the community in conversations about their culture and what they value in their community. They learn how to use analog and digital tools to apply to projects that are designed to help or support the local needs. The program culminates in a group project and presentation to industry professionals, educators and peers.
Presented in the iconic Great Hall, Connected Worlds immerses visitors in a fantastical animated world where your actions – gestures, movements, and decisions – impact how well the world is kept in balance.
