Assistant Museum Maintainer

DEPARTMENT ROLE

The Assistant Museum Maintainer is a member of facilities maintenance and ensures proper upkeep and functionality of premises and equipment. The Assistant Museum Maintainer will work closely with the Museum Maintainers, Supervising Museum Maintainer, and Director of Security and Facilities to conduct routine inspections, perform preventative maintenance, and handle basic repairs. This role requires a strong attention to detail, a proactive approach to maintenance, and the ability to collaborate effectively with the Facilities team.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in conducting routine inspections of premises and equipment.
  • Support the execution of preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with basic repairs and maintenance activities as directed.
  • Collaborate with contractors when professional repairs are required under the guidance of the Maintainers, Supervising Museum Maintainer, and Director of Security and Facilities.
  • Help diagnose mechanical issues and assist in correcting them.
  • Participate in the repair of machines, equipment, or structures as needed.
  • Work alongside the Museum Maintainers, Supervising Museum Maintainer, and Director of Security and Facilities to ensure maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • One year of construction or maintenance work.

  • Basic experience in performing routine maintenance tasks.
  • Valid NYS drivers' license
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Proven interest in maintenance work.
• Ability to work effectively with hand and power tools under the guidance of experienced personnel. • Proficiency in using common tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
• Effective time management skills.
• Attention to detail, ensuring quality workmanship.
• Ability to maintain focus while working both independently and within a team.
• Professional presentation and a positive attitude.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Willingness to learn and adapt to maintenance techniques.
• Eagerness to assist in disassembling machines, equipment, or devices for maintenance purposes. • Ability to follow instructions from blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs.
• An interest in learning precision measuring techniques and electronic testing devices.

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with education, skills and experience; The salary is $19.89/hour for 40 hours/week.
