Engineering Is Elementary® Kit Training

Engineering is Elementary® (EiE®), is a fun, flexible, inquiry-based curriculum gives educators the components they need to integrate engineering with the science subjects they already teach. NYSCI provides training and support on utilizing the EiE® kits. Each participant receives a one-year NYSCI educator membership upon completion of a professional development program. EiE® – Catching the Wind: Designing Windmills

January 30, 2016; 9 am – 3 pm
Recommended for Educators who teach grades 1–5
Fee: $100 per participant

During this session, participants will explore the EiE® curriculum kit Catching the Wind: Designing Windmills. Participants will think like mechanical engineers as they design and create wind-powered machines.  They will be introduced to wind turbines and renewable energy and will explore how common machines work.  And they will use their engineering skills to design wind-powered sailboats and windmills.  Connections will be made to the Next Generation Science Standards. The EiE® kit is not included in the fee of the program.

EiE® – To Get to the Other Side: Designing Bridges

March 26, 2016; 9 am – 3 pm
Recommended for Educators who teach grades 1–5
Fee: $100 per participant

Participants will explore the EiE® curriculum and kit To Get to the Other Side: Designing Bridges. Participants will explore the principles behind bridge building and investigate how forces act on different structures including different types of bridges. Connections will be made to the Next Generation Science Standards. The EiE® kit is not included in the fee of the program.
