Design Lab is a multi-layered experience for the general public, teachers, and students. Design Lab is creating new possibilities for young people to design solutions to problems worth solving, notice design opportunities in the real world, and think creatively about the redesign and reuse of materials.
The project includes:
• A new permanent NYSCI exhibition that will open in Summer 2014.
• A series of digital resources and tools for teachers and classrooms, both web-based and for mobile devices.
• Ongoing professional development that helps teachers use design to address new science and math standards and 21st century skills.
Activities use simple tools, everyday materials, and open-ended problems to invite children to explore design and come up with their own solutions. Problems include using circuits to make a model city a happier place, and creating working solar ovens from recycled materials.
