Citi Field is hosting the All-Star Game and we’re celebrating! Join us for star-related activities and demonstrations, where you can make constellations on sun print paper and learn about rockets and flight. You can even explore the sun using solar telescopes!
Activities are free with NYSCI admission. The solar telescope workshop will be held weather permitting.
Chillin’ on Mars: noon – 4 pm
Explore the surface of Mars through a 3D virtual reality tour using Oculus virtual reality glasses. Winner of NASA’s International Space Apps Challenge Local Prize for “Most Inspirational Idea,” NASA commended Chillin’ On Mars as “an immersive experience that truly democratizes the experience of exploration.”
Meet NYSCI’s New Mars Rover: 1 pm
Meet the newest member of NYSCI’s family: a six-wheeled, robotic rover. Robert Beatty and his family present the rover they made and donated to NYSCI’s The Search for Life Beyond Earth exhibition. The rover is constructed of over 700 electrical components, aluminum parts, and other pieces that were purchased, made by hand and/or machine at the Beatty Robotics Team shop. The Team includes daughters Camille (age 13) and Genevieve (age 11), who did most of the work on the rover.
Solar Viewing: noon – 4 pm
View the Sun through filtered telescopes with members of the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York.
Demos and Activities: noon – 4 pm
Additional activities include solar balloon demos, bubbles, sun prints, and mini rocket launches.
