Drop off your unwanted electronics with the folks from the Lower East Side Ecology Center. Learn about sustainability with a screening of The Story of Stuff, sustainability apps, presentations about ecology, and hands-on activities and demos. Most activities (noon – 4 pm) are free with NYSCI admission; Drop-off (10 am – 4 pm) is free. Held rain or shine.

Activities include:

Build Radio Blinkies with Hack Manhattan11:30 am – 1 pm & 1:30 – 3 pm
Try simple radio communication using Morse code. Learn about the limits of radios and antennas over long distances, through walls and other materials, and with interference. Led by Hack Manhattan. Recommended for ages 10 and older. Small materials fee required.

Making Jewelry with Electronics
11 am – 2 pm
Reuse e-waste to make your own jewelry. This workshop will be held in our Maker Space. Free with NYSCI admission.

Water Bottle Terrariums
11 am – 2 pm
Reuse a water bottle to build your own terrarium. Free with NYSCI admission.

Coma Niddy Performance – SciCode
noon & 1 pm
Science raps, lessons and comedy with NYSCI’s own rap educator, Coma Niddy. Free with NYSCI admission.

The Story of Stuff Screening
11 am – noon, 1:30 – 2 pm
Watch The Story of Stuff and learn how we make, use and throw away all the stuff in our lives. Free with NYSCI admission.

Eco Cart
11 am – 2 pm
Learn about garbage-eating worms, biodegradable alternatives, and much more with the hands-on activities at this info cart. Free with NYSCI admission.
